Snow And Ice
Level 5 is rather dangerous when compared to the previous four levels. The temperature in this level is normally around –15 degrees to 0 degrees Celsius. The whole level is composed of freezing snow and ice. Due to these factors, Level 5 is usually the first major obstacle lostsouls encounter. There are almost no entities in this level, but scarcity of food and several other factors earn this level class 4. The structure of Level 5 is comparable to that of Swiss cheese, with small tunnels to large caverns carved throughout the infinite cubic expanse of snow. The snow is packed tightly, making it hard to burrow through. The amount that the snow is packed varies from area to area, so in some places people have been able to burrow out their own little homes. There are two “sections” to this level. Each section is not set to a single area. The sections appear to be scattered around the level randomly. These two sections are the Ice Halls and the Snow Tunnels. The Snow Tunnels are far more common. They are usually thin tunnels which require you to crawl and stoop through them. Very rarely, the Snow Tunnels open to larger caverns, which are hotspots for settlements, due to it being easier to expand these than the solid ice of the ice halls. It is not too uncommon to see the large caverns have structures already in them. These structures look similar to the tents that one would see at camps on very tall mountains. There are also campfires here, which leads us to another strange thing about level 5. On level 5, fires and other processes that would produce smoke do not, which makes it much safer to light fires. There are piles of firewood nearby these camps that regenerate every three days, so they are used as a common source of supplies. In more recent years, these lumber sources have become a hotspot for trading, which has solidified (literally) level 5 as a very important level. The Ice Halls are much rarer and larger. They are comprised of, obviously, ice. These areas are about twenty degrees colder, and henceforth, harder to inhabit. The ice in the ice halls is extremely hard, so not many people have dug through the areas. The ice in this area is exceptionally clear, with the clearest being on the walls. Snowdrifts are also found here, so beware. There are more entities in the ice halls, with the most common being the Iciclers. These caverns have icicles hanging from the ceilings and sometimes frozen-over ponds. The Ice Halls are filled with abandoned wooden structures. Any area exposed to air is surrounded by ten meters of snow, and then hard rock. The cold is not the only threat of the ice halls, though. There are sometimes thin crevasses that go down hundreds of meters, killing anyone who falls in. Lostsouls have reported seeing a dim blue glow emanating from the walls of the ice halls. This level tends to be extremely dark, though there are sometimes dim, orange and blue lamps. Around the level, it is common to find equipment that one would commonly see in mountaineering shops, like thick coats, ice spikes, and crampons. Sections containing these supplies tend to have wooden supports around them. These supply areas tend to be much more common around the ice halls than the snow tunnels. In some areas, people have reported seeing hundreds of ice picks hammered into the walls spelling out cryptic messages. There are very few recognizable patterns when it comes to structures appearing, unlike on level 1 and 2, which makes identifying exits much harder. Noclipping on this level will get you to level 7. You can sometimes find tiles, which upon being broken, will lead into level 6. There are not many bases on level 5 due to its cold nature. The most prominent of the few groups on TOTG’s Lumber 5 which specializes in producing and exporting wooden products to level 70 derived from the many piles of wood nearby the natural outposts. There are about 230 people in this outpost.
