"The Flawed Reality. A truly infinite expanse of levels, liminal spaces, to get lost in. If you get here, you might as well make yourself comfortable. It'll be a long time.
- The Exogs' Book
The Oogarooms has been our passion project throughout the course of over 3 years. Inspired by several other projects, most notably the mediocre backrooms, the ramblings of this document have been reworked again and again as standards progress, and there is no doubt there will be further improvements in the time to come. No matter how quick or crawling the pace of work has been, our work has continued. Over its words, the Oogarooms explores hundreds of different regions, creatures, stories, and more in the fashion of an extensive database. With its deep history, lore, and stories, the Oogarooms delves themes revolving around anemoia, hiraeth, terror, loneliness, and predominantly nostalgia using its peculiar landscapes and features ranging from infinite mazes, tight crawlspaces, desolate expanses, beautiful landscapes, magical logicies, blood-thirsty creatures, and overall whimsical yet solitary regions. More canonically,
The Oogarooms, or Flawed Reality, is an extensive, lonely realm outside our own. This document serves the purpose of a compilation of knowledge from its inhabitants and researchers; and a database of information to help anyone from its everyday denizen, anyone curious, or a lost soul unlucky enough to find themselves caught here. And if you get here, you might as well make yourself comfortable. It’ll be a long time.
Anyways, we sincerely hope you enjoy exploring the hundreds of pages of interconnected griffonage.
The Oogarooms are approximately 25 billion years old, but for the vast majority of that timespan, have been completely sealed away and inaccessible. They are the second reality created by the Deities, being 45 billion years younger than the Deity’s Garden. The existence of the Oogarooms is implied in the Blue Rock scripture, but not explicitly stated. According to Paglichi (who is friends with Ocelight and allegedly calls them “Big O’light,”) when asked about the Oogarooms, Ocelight said “Oh, don’t bring THAT blunder up!” and then went back to torturing evil people in the waiting room, so yes, the Oogarooms were created by the deities. Through other accounts of people who were lucky enough to meet with the deities (such as the famous religious text Sifza’s Account,) along with Exog artifacts found among the levels, the creation of the Oogarooms goes something like this:
25 billion years ago, all of the deities were having an awesome party, because it was Ocelight’s 45(billion)th birthday! Recalling how only a few days after they (Ocelight) had come into existence, they had created the reality of the Deity’s Garden, they wanted to make a new reality. Unfortunately for everyone who would come to live in the Oogarooms, they were having a party, and hence, all the deities were absolutely geeked out and tripping balls. Divine alcohol is really something, so drunk Ocelight worked and worked on the Oogarooms with their buddies for maybe a year before they fell asleep. Upon waking up (with a severe hangover, I might add), they realized the horrible place they had created, Ocelight used their divine magic to seal away the Oogarooms, hopefully forever. Of course, this seal was broken in 2035 by SSRO, but that's much later. Ten billion years later, Ocelight, wiser (and more importantly, sober) began to create a new reality, and this is the Ionic/Oogan Reality, the one we all live in. Planets, stars, galaxies and nebulae spotted the infinite void of this new, more sane, reality. On one of Ocelight's expeditions around the universe, a specific planet caught their eye. This planet, of course, was Ion! Unlike the millions and billions of planets they had passed before, Ion had life, specifically, somewhat intelligent life. These were a species known as ogs. Calling ogs “intelligent” is really an overstatement, but they were much smarter than the other species which Ocelight had seen across the universe. They watched these creatures evolve, and Klomo took notice. Klomo, more commonly referred to as “The Fallen Deity” really, really, hated Ocelight, and all of the other deities for that matter. So, Klomo used their own divine powers to create a beast that would torture and kill Ocelight’s beloved ogs. This creature was the infamous Colossal of Realms. A few months after Klomo made the Colossal, Ocelight returned to check up on the Ogs, and they were all dead 🫃🐦. Well, not all of them. Ocelight gifted the power of true rational reasoning and intelligence to some of the remaining ogs, which changed them enough that they called them the Exogs, for they were no longer ogs. The Exogs tribe/species began to use the gift of intelligence, along with some gifted divine powers from the hex crystals, to trap and banish the Colossal of Realms to the Oogarooms. The Colossal was sent into a deep sleep, hundreds of thousands of kilometers into the Main Base, and Ocelight resealed the Oogarooms as best they could, but it wasn't perfect. This is probably why random things appear to disappear sometimes, they are sent to the Oogarooms due to the cracked and imperfect seal. Unfortunately, all of the Exogs got sent to the Oogarooms during the banishing process as well. The ogs that remained on Ion did not have the gift of intelligence, and eventually evolved into the Oggeks and later OBMs. The Exogs lived for a long time in the Oogarooms, and it is theorized that eventually, feeling forgotten by Ocelight, the Exogs became more and more violent and evolved into the hostile obm-like entities that roam the halls, like oogas and boogas. However, Ocelight did not forget about the Exogs, rather, they assumed that all of the Exogs had died while banishing the Colossal. There is actually a really cool plaque commemorating the Exogs in the Deity’s Garden. Other entities, the non-obmoid ones, are likely random animals that noclipped into the Oogarooms by chance and evolved grotesquely. The Exogs left many treasures behind in the Oogarooms on level one, most famously a book called the “Exogs Lengi,” or translated, “Exogs Tale.” This is where the famous “The Oogarooms. A truly infinite expanse of levels…” quote comes from. It was written down in an unknown language which took a long time to decipher. Exog poems (which were somehow written in known modern languages) have been found on the NNL Everending Rooms of Infinite Possibilities. From these writings and other artifacts, it appears the Exogs either died out, or more likely evolved into some of the entities we see roaming today, around 400,000 years ago. This means that for 200,000 years, the Exogs lived in the Flawed Reality, building civilizations, thriving, dying, and yet all that remains of what may have been great empires are only tattered pages and broken houses.
Tales of the Oogarooms have existed for hundreds, even thousands, of years. Old records from the twelfth century tell tales of “endless mud halls,” and the oldest living religion, the Ocelight/Blue Rock Religion, has some things mentioned that could be references to the Oogarooms, like an area created by the deities known as the “flawed reality” that was “an endless maze of Ocelight’s shame.” Mentions of a tribe called the Exogs that was sent to the flawed reality after defeating a beast called the Colossal of Realms are found in the Ocelight Scripture, and proof of these tribes has been found on level 1. Famously, the painter Cvil DeVan Rallah was sent to the Oogarooms as well in the 1650s. However, the true discovery of the Oogarooms was in 2035. In a scientific research organization called SSRO, in division 4, sector 3, a portal directly to the Oogarooms was created. It is unknown exactly how they were able to do this (despite all efforts, SSRO4-3 has refused to de-censor the document) but a glowing white portal was made, probably very violently, as heavy damage was sustained on the building. This portal led directly to level 1, and started to tear at the seal that Ocelight had made to keep Reality and the Oogarooms apart. Other portals opened at different intervals throughout time, estimated to be as early as 1700 BCE and as late as 2200 CE, with the most amount of potentially Oogarooms-related disappearances occurring around 2035 (spiking again the 2070s for unrelated reasons, discussed later), when this portal was created. When you are sent to the Oogarooms, there is about a 98% chance that there will be no change in the time, but less than 2% of people are sent to different places in time. For example, if 100 people entered in the year 2050, 2 of those people would end up in years that are not 2050. It’s hard to explain, and complicates things, but just know that time is not necessarily linear in the Oogarooms. At this time, the Oogarooms were small in size. The Main Base (NNL), as well as the first 56 levels could be accessed, but the rest were still sealed away by the deities' magic. Going past level 56 would send you back to level 1. Using the same (or a similar process, but much more controlled than the first) SSRO4-3 was able to get all levels up to 143, as well as the other NNLs. This tore at the seal more. Another test, and the weight of all the levels behind the seal caused it to begin to tear on its own, causing hundreds of new kilometers of tunnel to appear in the Main Base every day for months. Eventually, the rumbling subsided. The Oogarooms had been fully accessed. The seal was broken. This was done by 2056. How many levels are in the Oogarooms in total? Eight million. This was discovered by the Vacivus-Inanus journey. Most of the exploration into later levels has been done through the Main Base, which gets more dangerous due to instability the farther you go in, so larger groups are the main propagators of later level exploration, using scientific might to stabilize the hall and keep it that way. Because of the instability farther in, the highest reached level is around the early 400s. By 2077, the final level, eight million, was reached, but all the in-between levels were not explored. Throughout 2070 to 2079 (present day) knowledge of the Oogarooms has become somewhat known in Ionic Reality in small groups, mostly in niche online communities. This has led to an uptick in the total population of the Oogarooms, with CCOEG estimating that about 400-500 people are sent to the Oogarooms each year, with about 90% of those people coming from the modern era.
The population of the Oogarooms is steadily increasing, which is not good. It is projected to reach 5,000,000 lostsouls by 2100. While some people willingly entered the Oogarooms to explore and join groups, many were taken from their families and friends against their will. Several groups with advanced scientific materials and intelligent people have been working on creating a singular portal which would allow people who are retrieved by CCOEG to be able to leave whenever they want, without any passage of time (Oogarooms magic.) It is confirmed that SSRO4-3 actually has achieved this, but they are being rude and are not sharing the information. Based on the current successes and failures of similar projects by CCOEG and the other major groups, the portal exit is expected to be constructed by 2085. Other projects, like the Connections Project, are set to be completed within the next 20 years, making the Oogarooms less hostile and allowing people to leave more easily. Unfortunately, the current whereabouts of the Colossal are unknown, and it is unknown if it is still alive. If it is, that could place the future of the Oogarooms in jeopardy. The Colossal could wreak havoc among the bases and outposts among many levels very quickly, which would make escaping the Oogarooms nearly impossible. Given that the Colossal can only be killed by a deity, and Ocelight’s refusal to help at all with anything related to the Flawed Reality, if the Colossal ever makes a return, the future of the Oogarooms could be destroyed.
It was unknown for the longest time whether the Oogarooms had an infinite or finite number of levels. This expedition, backed by CCOEG, OITG, and TOTG, was created in order to find the answer to that question. People had ventured far distances into the main base for tens of years, trying to see how far they could get, and it never shown to end. However, most of these expeditions were on foot, and the three groups planned to use a motorized vehicle. Three main issues posed themselves, though. Constantly getting energy to power the vehicle, and stabilizing the tunnel as they went to prevent them from noclipping back to level one, or maybe worse, ERIP, and keeping the group fed. The second issue seemed easier to tackle. Stabilizing devices made from tutapetra had been around for twenty or so years, so shoveling a few good, pure ingots of the stuff did the trick. The energy was solved using small generators making electricity from radioactive decay. Finally, keeping the group fed was done through the decently-sized stash of PagGel that CCOEG had obtained over its many years of existence. On Butan 15th, 2076, the group set out. The three people that had stepped up to lead the mission were Llid, Adokad, and Noynatrad. They got in, and started heading out. The vehicle was set to stay at a constant 120km/hr, give or take a few, and for two hundred seventy-eight days. Eventually, the fog ceased. They saw the end of the tunnel. Distant at first, but getting closer over time. They slowed, and slowed, but something was bound to go wrong. With an estimated 90 kilometers left in the Main Base, an alarm went off. The trio had been told that this alarm meant low battery, but they weren’t all that concerned, given how close they were. Then, another alarm. The automatic steering system had started to fail. Due to another failure, the low battery was given priority, and the more important alarm regarding the steering system was hidden. With only four kilometers left in the journey, the steering completely failed. The vehicle crashed into the left side, then bounced off. The entire crew was jolted, prompting Llid to start recording. A transcription is written below. [Robot Voice] Recording Start. [shouting in the background, heavy breathing] Llid: Something happened. We don’t know what. A huge jolt just washed over the entire ve- [vehicle hits right side of wall, more shouting] Llid: Shit- there it is again. We have no idea what's happening. Adokad [shouting from the back]: It’s gonna *unintelligible* We *unintelligible* [static] [loud boom] Noynatrad: Llid, give me that! Llid: Ok, calm down! Noynatrad: Calm my ass down! CCOEG, if you are listening to this, fix your alarm system. The steering system broke twenty minutes ago and no alarm w- [another loud boom as the vehicle ricochets off the left side again] Adokad: Awwwww, shit! [crashing as plates and other objects fall] Llid: Noynatrad, you said the steering system failed? Noynatrad: *unintelligible* Akodad: If the damn steering system is broken one of you bastards take manual control of the tin can! Noynatrad: I’m working on it! [another crash, right side of the main base hit] Noynatrad: All we can do is pray to Ocelight now. Llid: What? Aren’t you fucking working on it? Noynatrad: The final crash broke my tools. Akodad: *unintelligible mumbling in the back* [Final crash as the vehicle hits the left side of the Main Base for the final time, multiple crashes as the vehicle flips over multiple times] [Robot voice] Recording end. Obviously, the vehicle, which had been nicknamed the Tin Can by the crew, crashed due to issues regarding the steering system. Both Noynatrad and Akodad died on impact, while Llid crawled from the burning wreckage with many injuries. There was only an estimated 300 meters left to the end of the tunnel. Like a gift from the deities, Llid managed to find a safety structure only a few meters from the crash. He went inside, and slowly recovered. However much Llid wanted to go back, he knew he couldn’t. Eventually, he walked the final bit of the journey to the final door. This door was gray, made of metal, and had heavy bolts around the edges. He opened it, and stepped into a cave, or some system of tunnels made of rocks. There were several shelves carved into the walls of the winding tunnel, and the occasional wooden door. Each shelf had some token of each level. First, a glob of mud, a hunk of green concrete, an amethyst crystal, and so on. Llid reported all feelings of hunger and pain slowly disappearing while traversing through level Eight Million, like a safety structure. Eventually, one of the wooden doors was different. Instead of the old, dull gray doorknobs that had preceded every door before it for the past few days as Llid traveled, this one was bright gold. The door itself was not worn down like the others. Upon opening it, Llid found himself on the NNL “An Ending.” Choosing to stay in the Oogarooms, if only for the sole reason of reporting the information back to CCOEG, Llid was transported to the Mudhalls. For a whole week, he walked, until he finally stumbled back upon a CCOEG outpost and the information was written down. Due to the fact that Level 8,000,000 is so far out, there has been no level description waiting for it. Upon returning to CCOEG’s headquarters in the Main Base, the Vacivus-Inanus mission was declared over and a partial success.
