How your life would be if you lived inside of the Basments would vary wildly based off of the years you were there. In the earliest days of the Basements, life would probably not be too different from life abvoeground, minus the sun and certain amenities. It would be like living in a giant apartment complex. Children would still go to school, as documents and plans from Bulwark show these things were planned. Otehr things that are known to have been planned are churches, parks, greenhouses, and daycares. This peaceful style of life would not have been perfect, though. The maze-like structure was still prevalant, even in these early days. The place was just a missing persons case waiting to happen.
After the decay of most of the major structure and trash had started to pile up, life would not have been too different. People were still gathered closely, and most were thriving. This era lasted from around 2015-2025.
2025 marked the end of that era after some event caused major population loss, leading to the population being spread thin. Public utilities such as the schools and parks would have stopped functioning. This means that most young children born from 2019 to present day would have probably been functionally illiterate.
The largest population loss began in around 2050. The collapse of many farms caused people to die of starvation and left small groups fending to survive. Life was quite diffucult during this time. During this time, the population dropped from around 3,000 to 800.
After 2060, the population began to stabalize, and in fact, probably grew. As many younger people who had entered the basements originally were now quite old, their children were begining to have children. Most groups of survivors did not encounter each other, as the building machiens had continued to expand the Basements. Food supplies had also stablized, and the population hovered around 700 people. 700 seemed to be the maxium amount that could be sustained at this time.
In the early 2070s, Xiodan, who had started the construction of the Basements, began to persecute and attack the followers in the Escapade tribe, which was run by Ikhals, the brother of Xiodan. Life from 2070 to 2078 was quite hard, and the population took another hit. Due to the somewhat war-like nature of Xiodan's group against Ikhals, there was a constant threat of death during this time.
After 2078, Ikhals's tribe managed to make Xiodan's surrender, leading to another peace period. This is probably what the present-day life in the Basements is like. Although Xiodan's group is no longer warring, they are continuing to prevent escape by blocking exits and defending certain zones.
