The Basements

Excerpt from "Oogan History: 2000-2010," C2078.

"On Astan 3rd, 2000, a company named Bulwark Enterprises suddenly became affiliated with an extremely religious and almost cult-like group of individuals. These people were a division of the Blue Rock Religion called the Daderemuerem (a real tounge twister, I might add), a mix of the Illoviteirian words for God and Love. They believed that Ocelight was going to return to Eon soon. Once they were there, they would destroy everyone who didn’t hide, and the survivors would ascend to the Deities Garden. This of course, did not happen, but apparently Bulwark also thought it would. Bulwark probably wasn’t an actual company and was probably a shell made by Daderemuerem to use for construction. They believed that the end of the world would be on Destan 32nd, 2005. Almost immediately after becoming affiliated with the Daderemuerem, Bulwark began researching robotics and AI to create a machine to build a massive bunker for them. On Vitan 13th, 2001, the first excavation began on the bunker. It is unknown where, except that it was somewhere in the forests of Valoi. There had been an ongoing hunt to find the location since 2043. They used many automated mining machines to carve out the space. Right from the start, the whole thing was littered with problems. There was a lot of water around the mining zone, which was damaging and destroying the expensive mining machines. The pumps often failed, leaving the oogan members working on it soaked. Nobody died, but by mid-2002, the project was looking not so good. On Destan 14th, 2002, they decided to drain all of the water into a massive storage tank which they would use for water to support the bunker. It was also connected to a purification system and much more to recycle the water. The automatic building machines were up and running by Cutan 18th, 2003. There was another issue, though. The machine’s AI had not had enough time to train on existing buildings and blueprints, and henceforth created strange layouts. The required technology for good enough AI also just wasn’t really there in 2003. There are only a few floor plans of some areas, and from these we can tell that communication would have been nearly impossible. There are only a few main tunnels, most of which were on the production floor. Sometime in Vitan of 2003, Bulwark declared bankruptcy, as the large loans they had taken out to build the basements had piled up, and the Daderemuerem followers and Bulwark both entered the bunker and sealed most of the entrances and exits. Since then, there have been a few people who escaped (who died) and some who got lost inside. The layout is probably maze-like, with random rooms leading to others. As of 2078, the location of the bunker, which has been more commonly referred to as The Basements, is still unknown, but it’s probably somewhere nestled in the thick shrubbery of valoi near Bulwark Basin. Sometime in 2078 a group of 7 urban explorers said they found a big nuclear bunker and were going to check it out. They never told anyone exactly where it was, and they never returned. In 2070, a massive boom was heard around Bulwark Basin, which was suspected to be due to the basements. The Basements may or may not exist, but they are rather large part of oogan pop culture."
